Eva and I met in 2010 and I knew right away that we were kindred spirits. I can't say that about many people, but Eva is someone whose heart is so close to my own that it's impossible to deny that (at the risk of sounding a little sappy) kindred spirits is the best way to describe us. That summer, we both were working at a non-profit at the time that sent us to Mozambique, Africa for a month to do music ministry. I remember staying up late with her having long talks and learning about her life in Toronto with her friends, her family and medical school.
Fast forward to early 2016 and Eva and I had kept in touch as much as we could - Facebook messages here and there, a few Skype calls as we both wrapped up university and big life updates. I remember the afternoon I got an excited email from her, saying that she and Michael were engaged and would I come to Toronto that fall to photograph her wedding? I couldn't say anything but YES and I was so moved. As I say frequently to my close friends, I never want anyone I'm close with to feel obligated to talk to me about photographing their life, so when someone I love dearly asks me to be a part of their wedding or engagement or whatever, I'm beyond happy.
Eva and Michael's wedding day in Toronto was incredible. Being part of every wedding is a beautiful thing, but I have a huge heart for weddings that join and celebrate different cultures (Michael is Korean, Eva is Chinese) and on top of all of that, it was Eva's wedding. I flew in on a Thursday and we set up their engagement photos on Friday. I arrived to her parents house early Saturday morning (around 8am) and left her wedding reception at midnight. I don't think I've ever taken so many candid photos at a wedding reception but it was like emotion painted everywhere - so many tears and belly laughs, shining eyes from both crying and laughing so hard it hurt. My favorite kind of wedding.
Eva and Michael, thank you so much for having me as your wedding photographer in Toronto. It really was an honor, and I couldn't be more thankful to be in your lives. People like you make life worth living. <3
